Choosing a massage isn’t always as simple as it sounds. Some days, your body feels tired and overstimulated. Other days, there’s a specific knot in your shoulder that refuses to let go. Both De-Stress (Relaxation) and Deep Tissue massages are highly beneficial, but they support the body in different ways.

Relaxation or Deep Tissue Massage: Which One Is Right for You?

Choosing a massage isn’t always as simple as it sounds. Some days, your body feels tired and overstimulated. Other days, there’s a specific knot in your shoulder that refuses to let go. Both De-Stress (Relaxation) and Deep Tissue massages are highly beneficial, but they support the body in different ways.

At Spa Vert, located in Little Burgundy near the Atwater Market, we often guide clients through this choice based on how they’re feeling that day, not just what they usually book.

De-Stress (Relaxation) Massage

Our De-Stress massage is designed to calm the nervous system and create space for the body to soften. Using smooth, flowing movements with light to moderate pressure, this service encourages full-body relaxation and helps quiet mental overstimulation.

It’s particularly supportive if you:
• Feel generally tense but not in acute pain
• Are experiencing stress, mental fatigue, or sleep disturbances
• Simply want to slow down and reset

This is the massage many people gravitate toward when they need to decompress. The focus is not on intensity, but on rhythm, circulation, and restoring a sense of ease throughout the body.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue massage works differently. Rather than focusing primarily on relaxation, it targets deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue where chronic tension tends to settle.

With slower techniques and firmer pressure, this service is ideal if you:
• Have persistent tightness in specific areas
• Feel restricted in your range of motion
• Are recovering from overuse or repetitive strain

While Deep Tissue can feel more intense at times, it is always adjusted to your comfort level. The goal isn’t discomfort, it’s release. Many clients describe feeling lighter, freer, and more mobile afterward.

So, which one should you choose?

If your main goal is to unwind and regulate stress, De-Stress is often the right starting point.
If you’re dealing with ongoing muscular tightness or limited mobility, Deep Tissue may be more appropriate.

It’s also completely possible to blend both approaches. At Spa Vert, all our Deep Tissue therapists can adapt their techniques to provide a more relaxation-focused experience if that’s what your body needs that day. Some therapists who specialize in De-Stress, however, do not offer Deep Tissue services.

The most important element is communication. Let your therapist know how you’ve been feeling physically and mentally, your service can always be adapted accordingly.

Whether you’re seeking calm, relief, or a balance of both, massage remains one of the most effective ways to support overall well-being. If you’re unsure which direction to take, our team is always happy to guide you.
